Sixth-graders are fine-tuning their storytelling skills. First, they analyzed mentor texts to notice the author’s craft moves. Then, they completed a series of quick-write exercises to generate ideas. After that, each writer chose a small, memorable moment to develop into a fully formed, personal narrative.

This summer, our fifth graders dove into history through the novel Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone, and they wrote narrative essays abou it from the perspective of one of the main characters.

Our Walkathon last Sunday was a joyful celebration of community, fitness, and fun! We’re deeply grateful to our Walk-a-thon co-chairs, Amy Bloom and Alex Blecksmith; our Parent Association Co-chairs, Kelly O'Toole and Cindy Clark; Mrs. G; and the many parent volunteers and staff members whose hard work made the day such a success.

Lower Elementary students have been exploring big goals and the mindset it takes to achieve them in Mindfulness class, and they have learning what makes a computer a computer in Computer Science

In fourth grade, our students have been hard at work! We recently wrapped up our “Best Part of Me” project, where students paired their heartfelt writing with black-and-white photos to celebrate what makes them unique.

Last year, our 6th-grade class became the first group to pilot this program, and their success was nothing short of amazing. The students showed creativity, perseverance, and teamwork as they designed robots capable of navigating sand, just like what they had at USC. Their results were so impressive that our school is now being recognized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) at their annual Principal Investigators (PI) Meeting!

In Ms. G.’s P.E. classes, the students are learning and working on building a variety of skills as part of a team-building unit. Students must cooperate and collaborate with each other to solve challenges.

Now that we are well into first grade, we have already learned so much about ourselves and each other! Specifically, we have learned that everyone has big feelings sometimes, and that’s okay!

This week, students began their interactive reading journals, which they'll use to annotate and engage with the texts they'll read this year. In addition to building their skills as active readers, interactive notebooks also provide students with a personalized space for them to record, process, and reflect on information.

Last Friday, the “Wind Instrument Petting Zoo” was a real blast! The day began with an exciting assembly/rally for all 4th graders and our new upper elementary students.
