Library

A lot of great learning is happening in our library! Kindergartners and first graders have been taking a closer look at the anatomy of a library book, including parts such as titles, covers, call numbers, and indexes. Understanding how books are structured is key to becoming masterful readers. Our kinder, first, and second graders have been delving into the distinctions between fiction and non-fiction, honing critical thinking skills as they discern between storytelling magic and the wonders of the real world. Ever wonder how our library is organized? In third and fourth grade, students have been learning the secrets of call numbers and the Dewey Decimal system through collaborative games and scavenger hunts. These activities teach students the art of finding the perfect book and the importance of organizational systems. Our fifth and sixth graders have taken a deep dive into their genre personalities through activities that help clarify reading preferences and guide students toward books that will resonate with them. Across all grade levels we have been exploring the essential questions of why do authors write books and how do we as readers interpret what they are trying to say with their stories? We have also been reading and sharing books centered on the themes of gratitude, kindness, and generosity. Through these narratives, we’ve discussed the importance of these virtues and valuable life lessons that extend beyond the pages of a book.
