Kindergarten

"H" is for hibernation! During winter, kindergartners learn about all the fascinating animals that hibernate during the long winter months. We talk about the differences between blubber and fat and the importance of both for animals’ bodies. One of the best parts about unit studies is when we do hands-on activities to better understand the world around us! We did a fat experiment, using butter to demonstrate how many animals keep warm and protect their bodies from icy temperatures and how they get this protection by preparing their bodies for this time of year. We all agreed that our hands were kept warm in the butter compared to the ice water with no buttery protection! Brrr! We are continuing our hibernation studies by engineering our very own cozy homes for hibernation. We absolutely love learning more about animals during wintertime. Even though winter is known as being more of a quiet season for many animals, a lot of work goes into the preparation for this time of year and as young scientists, we loved peeking into the fascinating lives of animals during wintertime!
