Fourth Grade

The first trimester of 4th grade has been all about becoming a writer. From cutting and gluing to make their very own “Writer’s Notebook” to learning and understanding the steps of the writing process. The students have learned about writing hooks to grab the attention of the reader, using transition words in their story to keep it organized and sequenced, and revising their work by adding details and descriptive adjectives. Students are writing all about themselves in the personal narrative unit of study. The 4th graders just published their “small moment” pieces which is a “zoomed in” portion from a big event in their lives. Also this trimester, they’ve written about the origin of their given names, chose a body part and wrote about why it’s the “Best Part of Me”, and just recently started brainstorming about a time they got hurt. As 4th graders transition up to upper elementary writing, they are encouraged to JUST WRITE! They don’t need permission on what to write about or how to start a sentence. It’s all about building confidence within themselves and seeing their paper filled with all those wonderful ideas. Come on over to 4th grade to read some displayed work from the last month of school.
