Band "Petting Zoo" Strikes a Chord with Future Musicians

Last Friday, the “Wind Instrument Petting Zoo” was a real blast! The day began with an exciting assembly/rally for all 4th graders and our new upper elementary students. Our ‘new edition’ Advanced Band members performed, and five band members gave personal testimonials about the fun and enrichment they’ve experienced as band members. After snack recess, our attendees met our three guest pro musicians and Mr. Nuñez. The pros spoke about how each instrument (flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone) worked, and performed fun musical excerpts from “Pocahontas,” “Harry Potter,” and “Star Wars.”  Next came the experience of trying out each instrument with professional guidance. The Library was literally abuzz with extraordinary sounds. This all took the mystery out of how wind instruments worked, and many kids found that it might be fun to learn how to play a band instrument alongside their like-minded friends in Beginning Band.
