Fifth-grade students are embarking on an exciting entrepreneurial journey! They are developing business concepts designed to offer either a product or a service. Their innovative ideas have ranged from a local bakery and smoothie/boba shop to a toy car stand. Although the project is still in its early stages, students are already demonstrating excellent collaboration with their business partners to create comprehensive business plans.
As part of this project, students will also strengthen their math computation skills by practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in real-world business scenarios. They'll learn to calculate the costs of materials, determine pricing, and figure out how much to sell to cover expenses and make a profit. Through these hands-on activities, students will not only sharpen their math skills but also gain valuable insights into how math drives decision-making in the world of business.
In addition to their business development, students will design a website for their venture, a skill they learned in Computer Science with Ms. Calista. They will also build a model of what their store will look like in Design Thinking with Mrs. Cregan. Their businesses will be “open” to fellow Crestview students, parents, and friends during Open House. Hope you’ll drop by to check it out!
