The winter season brought with it many opportunities for children in kindergarten through third grade to explore melody. Kindergarteners learned about higher and lower-pitched sounds using vocal exploration and movement with scarves. First and second grade students learned to sight-read simple music pieces using solfege techniques combining rhythm and pitch. Third graders learned their first three notes on the recorder and began to learn to play by ear. Each grade then had the chance to explore the Orff instruments: xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels - oh my! As we begin to prepare for the Spring Concert at the Lanterman on Tuesday, June 6, the excitement is growing. Your children are looking forward to sharing their songs with you. We’ll be getting a little jazzy and a little musical theater-y. Save the date!
