Second Grade

Our motto in this math unit is a quote by Warren Buffet, “The more you learn, the more you earn” as we expand our knowledge of money. We began this study by looking at coins and noticing their images. We observed the likeness of different presidents, the variety of sizes and that some edges are smooth and others are rough. The big find was locating the minting date and realizing how long ago coins were made. We found one coin from 1944 and a number of pennies with our birth dates on them. We now know the value of various coins which enables us to show the same amount of money with different denominations of change. We also can utilize the dollar sign, the cent sign and the decimal point. We hope to use these skills in real life situations.
