First Grade

There’s a lot of commotion as we explore the ocean! This month, the first grade’s unit of study is the ocean. They dove deep into this unit by exploring the animals and plants that live in each ocean zone. In collaborative groups, students were in charge of learning about one ocean animal and sharing the knowledge they gained with their classmates. The most interesting fact shared was that a sea star can have up to 40 arms! (Wow!) As they submerged deeper into the sea, they found out that animals living in the midnight zone have adapted to the dark by using bioluminescence. They conducted an experiment in class to help understand what bioluminescence means. To conclude the unit, they will be taking a field trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific to visit some friendly fish and other sea animals!
