We are a first grade family, and that means honoring holidays from diverse cultures! In the last few weeks, we learned about Diwali and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). We compared both holidays to other celebrations that we observe, and found out that they all have similarities. One student said that Diwali is similar to Halloween because they both give out treats. Another student said that Dia de los Muertos is like Diwali because they both put out decorations with beautiful colors. We made our own diyas (oil lamps) to light our path to our first grade journey. We also made calaveras (skulls) to remember our loved ones who have passed. Studying these holidays has brought us closer together!
