Music

The recorder classes are now up and running for all students in the third through sixth grades. Following social distancing guidelines, practicing while being outdoors with the autumn breezes makes this very special instrument a joy to play.

Recorder type instruments have an ancient history, which includes the Japanese shakuhachi, the quena from South America, and a variety of instruments that have been found all around the world.

As far back as the 1930s, the recorder has been a tool for learning to read music notation, developing breath and finger coordination, and for musical expression. For this coming Winter Concert, recorder students will be demonstrating their skills with various performing ensembles.
