A huge thank you to our Crestview families who donated backyard fruit to our Food Forward project in early March. This was another mission by our Third Grade Team Earth! Food Forward is a local organization that fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people in need and inspiring others to do the same. In Computer Science classes, the students researched the organization and designed a flyer that went home to every family. They also made adorable hand-drawn posters for our front gates. On March 8th, the fruit was delivered to the Atwater Farmer's Market who hosted a "produce donation station." Food Forward was overwhelmed with how many pieces of fruit we donated. They wanted to hear all about Crestview and how our third graders pulled it together. Food Forward explained that our fruit would be transported that day to Mutual Aid Action Los Angeles - an organization that hosts a farmers market for the homeless. This project had so many valuable teachable moments!
