Day Porter/Maintenance Staff (begins in October)
Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment inside the school and on the grounds of the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

Unlocks doors and disarms security system prior to the scheduled school opening time;

Cleans school daily before areas are occupied;

Empties all trash containers daily;

Cleans all classroom sink and counter areas daily;

Cleans and mops all restrooms and staff lounge daily;

Dusts all exterior railings and eliminates all cobwebs daily;

Vacuums or mops areas as needed, but not less frequently than once per week;

Dusts horizontal surfaces as needed, but not less frequently than once per week;

Checks restrooms periodically during the day and stocks all supplies as needed;

Keeps all classrooms in a clean and attractive condition during the day;

Keeps the building and grounds, including sidewalks, parking lot, and playground areas free from trash and litter;

Monitors all grass and garden areas for proper watering needs and reports any issues to supervisor.

Moves furniture when needed.

Assists in set-up and tear-down of on-site and off-site events.

Completes basic maintenance and repairs (replacing lightbulbs, minor plumbing repairs, painting, etc.) as needed and reports additional needs to supervisor;

Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment on hand, and orders needed supplies;

Knows and follows all safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job;

Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of high school education; at least one year of custodial experience and at least one year in general construction or as a building trades helper.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Ability to use cleaning supplies as appropriate and various maintenance and repair tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
