Enrichment Classes

A strong enrichment program taught by a team of specialists adds breadth and richness to the Crestview education, helping us fulfill our commitment to an education for the intellectual, physical and emotional development of the child.

Art

Crestview's art program is a building process where in a child begins to see the world around them from vantage points other than their own. As a student gains experience, their perception of what they know is refined through learned skills. These are concrete experiments where media is manipulated and ideas are expressed. Intellectual exploration through art history helps the student see the connection between time and cultures. Our three-dimensional art studies include construction paper design, weaving, sculpture, and ceramics. The ceramics program is complete with projects ranging from tiles to hand-build clay sculptures.
Library
Library at Crestview is both a place and a class. With over 9,000 volumes of literature and resource materials, it is a place rich with adventure, opportunity, and information. Students come to the library for weekly classes that introduce literature, instruct in the usage of the many resources of the library, and teach how to conduct research.
Music
Musical material is presented in a strict sequence that follows the child's natural abilities at various stages of growth. The concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, and form are developed sequentially. In every music lesson, the students sing, both individually and as an ensemble. Through focused listening, singing, playing various instruments, and moving to music, students learn about the various aspects of music such as tempo, pitch, rhythm, dynamics, form, and timbre. Continuous refinement of skills through singing and playing of instruments is the essential goal of the elementary music program.
Physical Education
A child's health and general physical well-being is as much an asset as the ability to compute, think, or create. The general goal of the physical education program is to help the children develop and maintain a healthy, vibrant, and active life-style into, and through, adulthood. Crestview offers a daily, structured, and age-appropriate physical education program to all students. Students develop physical skills and abilities while also developing social skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship.
Spanish
Spanish classes are taught entirely in Spanish to immerse students in the language and help them develop both the skills and comfort to listen and speak in Spanish. Students work to build a strong vocabulary as well as a proficiency with the grammatical structure of the language. Children are encouraged to use vocabulary they have learned in the correct context in short oral presentations. In addition to developing proficiency in another language, the students will have the opportunity to learn about the different cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking countries.
Technology and Computers
Computers are an essential element in 21st century education. At Crestview we offer a robust technology network to support the educational mission of the school. Each student participates in a weekly computer class in the lab where they receive instruction to expand their ability to use technology as both a resource and a tool in their education. Both the lab and classroom computers are used to enhance content instruction in other curricular areas.
