Financial Assistance

While Crestview Preparatory School has made every effort to maintain a reasonable, affordable tuition, we recognize that the cost of an independent school education is a sizeable investment in your child's future which may be a financial hardship for some families. Because of this, the school has allocated a limited amount of financial aid, or tuition assistance, for families with a demonstrated financial need. Such need is defined as the difference between the school's tuition and what the family can reasonably contribute. All Crestview's financial aid is strictly need-based. We do not offer loans or scholarships based on merit.

Will an application for financial aid negatively affect my child's application for admission?

Crestview Preparatory School adheres to a need-blind admissions policy. This means that the committee which selects students to attend Crestview operates separately from the committee which allocates financial aid. The decision to admit a student to Crestview is based on the student's readiness and personal fit with our program and available space in the class, without consideration of the family's ability to pay tuition.
Will I qualify?
Each family's individual financial circumstances are reviewed carefully to ascertain need. The determination of financial need is based on multiple factors such as family income, number of children, other tuitions, unusual medical expenses, taxes, assets, liabilities, etc. Parents complete an online application and financial statement through Financial Assistance for School Tuition (FAST). FAST applies a standard formula to help determine the level of need and provides a report to the school.

Financial assistance at Crestview is intended to help those that truly experience need and are willing to make a good-faith effort to pay as able, therefore the process will differentiate between necessary expenditures and lifestyle choices that increase expenses or decrease income. The financial assistance committee will use all the available information to make grant decisions. Because of this, it is difficult to offer general guidelines as to who will qualify. If you wish to discuss your particular circumstances, please contact the Head of School or Director of Finance and Operations.

What is the size of a typical grant?
Since the grant amount is based on the individual needs of each family, there is no "typical" grant. Grants can vary from a few hundred dollars to an amount close to covering full tuition. Every family is expected to pay at least a portion of the tuition.
To what extent will I be expected to use my own resources?
Because the school has limited funds and seeks to provide assistance to all who demonstrate a need, grants are based on the expectation that the family resources will be used to the maximum extent possible. You can anticipate that this will involve some degree of sacrifice.
How do I apply?
Because of the need-blind admissions policy, you must complete a separate online application and financial statement to request financial assistance.

The following is an outline of the Financial Assistance process:

December - January

  • Notify the Director of Finance and Operations in the Business Office (at 818.952.0925) that you are interested in applying for financial assistance. You will receive documentation regarding the online application process.
  • Access the FAST online application process by clicking on the link to the right.
By February 9
Complete the online application and financial statement.
By February 24
Submit 2011 tax return to FAST per their online instructions. The school will then be notified that your application is complete.
Late February/Early March
The Financial Assistance Committee will meet to review the completed applications and determine awards. Families of students offered a place at Crestview will receive notification of the committee's decision when enrollment is offered. Families are given a deadline 10-12 days later to accept financial aid grants and return enrollment contracts.

After March

All incomplete or late applications will be considered as the files become complete and funds are available.
Must I re-apply for financial assistance each year?
Yes, financial circumstances change from year to year and your need may vary over time. In order to distribute the limited funds fairly, we require you to re-apply each year for assistance. We encourage you to retain copies of your completed application to refer to in the coming years.
Will my records be confidential?
Yes, the Head of School and the Director of Finance and Operations maintain strict confidentiality over financial aid files. Teachers and students are not informed of financial assistance applications or decisions. Applications of students who do not enroll at Crestview are destroyed.
If I am required to complete the SSS Parent Financial Statement for a sibling at another school, do I need to complete both the FAST and the SSS?
While we find the FAST process simpler, we will accept the SSS Parent Financial Statement in place of the FAST application when a family is required to use the SSS for another school. You may be required to submit additional documentation.
